Breaking the barriers to being your best through mindset, recognising your own value and harnessing the imposter within

Breaking the barriers to being your best

Here’s how my new online course, launching Wed 8th May, can help you do just that…

Is this you?

Perhaps you’re reading this feeling…

  • Stuck?
  • Lacking in motivation?
  • Struggling with confidence and self-worth?
  • Under-valuing yourself?

Combined, you know these things are holding you back. Being frank, perhaps you even realise, truly, that you are standing in the way of your own success.

Sound familiar?

Course objectives

If so, you’ll be pleased to hear that Breaking Barriers, the new online course, due to launch 8th May, will help you back yourself, by finding ways to…

  • bring about more positive outcomes, both personally and professionally, through a changed mindset,
  • successfully achieve career progression by identifying and negotiating for your true value, and
  • Reframe “imposter syndrome” to improve self-confidence and enhance overall growth.

“How?” I imagine you’ll ask. Well, this 7-module, self-navigated online course guides participants through c.90 minutes of video content, which not only shares some theory but also proven methods by which to implement results-based practical coaching strategies, using coaching tools, workbooks, checklists and other useful resources, to achieve personal and professional progression.

So, now to decide whether this course is for you.

Celebrate the Wins

Let me kick off then with a quick question: have you ever had moments – whether at work or in your personal life – where you’ve convinced yourself that you couldn’t do something? An exam, let’s say. Earning a certain qualification? How about onboarding a particular client or winning a tricky case?  And because of those limiting beliefs, did you nearly not go on to try?

Having had a word with yourself, to feel the fear, did you then go on to do it anyway? If so, I wonder whether you ever stopped to give yourself credit – not only for going on to do that thing and surviving it, but thriving as a result of it too? Did you celebrate how proud you should be to have achieved it? To have ticked off a new skill or life experience? Did you acknowledge how, having done, and as a result of, it, you’ll be better placed for doing similar (or harder!) in future?

The course starts with the reminder to give yourself credit where credit’s due, not just for doing things and surviving, but also thriving in whatever aspect of work/ home life it might have been. Important to do so to feel more confident about your ability to succeed where otherwise you might inadvertently be standing in your own way.

In it to win it

I see this a fair bit in my current coaching work, where it’s surprisingly common to see lawyers holding themselves back, for promotions and other work-related opportunities, because of their lack of self-belief.

You only have to look at silk applicants, those applying to become King’s Counsel, the crème de la crème at the Bar, to see what I am talking about. Men reportedly apply when they are only 50% sure of success, whilst women dip their toe into the applicant arena only when 90% convinced they’ll succeed. Good evidence of how you’ve got to be in it to win it.

The nuts and bolts of it

Using examples like these, and by encouraging discussions in the dedicated online course community group, Breaking Barriers seeks to engage participants in the 7 modules, designed to empower:

  • The setting of career goals with clarity and precision.
  • Building an awareness around the effect of mindset on outcomes whilst learning techniques to adopt a more positive, optimistic and resilient approach.
  • Embracing the imposter within by acknowledging periods of challenge for what they truly are, and master new strategies for improving self- confidence to achieve personal and professional growth.
  • Implementing an easy to use 4-stage framework for identifying, and negotiating assertively for, their value.
  • Accountability for outcomes.

Important topics to tackle

All these learnings are underpinned by using a variety of coaching tools and exercises, together with workbooks and checklists, which combine to support participants in embedding new and improved habits and behaviours, and remaining accountable to themselves, around 4 specific topic areas: career goal setting, mindset, knowing your own value and confidence.

Goals

Of course it wouldn’t be coaching without starting with a goal, looking at long term objectives, then breaking them down into smaller chunks, before identifying a workable action plan to achieve them.

Mindset

Moving on then to mindset, there’s an examination of how outcomes are influenced by thoughts, language and behaviour, before considering how they might be reframed, through positive focus and inner talk, to improve them. All come with relatable examples to re-enforce the important point: “Life is only a good as your mindset”.

Value

You’ll be introduced to a 4-stage framework for identifying and negotiating confidently for your value, to help those reluctant to time record on tasks they feel have taken too long, or who shy away from difficult costs conversations with clients when they feel a lack of confidence around charge out rates.

Confidence

Finally, we take a look more generally at the impact of a lack of confidence at work and go through a robust, 7 point plan for increasing feelings of self-worth through the introduction of really accessible practical strategies, turning so-called “imposter syndrome” on its head.
